From beyond the grave

They're rich, they're famous ... they're also dead. But being dead has not stopped Elvis raking in more millions to add to the ones he made while he was alive. Marilyn Monroe is still earning a quid. So is John Lennon. Forbes magazine has ranked the Top-Earning Dead Celebrities -- there are 13 of them. Dr Seuss is one, Marlon Brando another. Who else is on the list? You'd be surprised. See for yourself at http://www.forbes.com/home/lists/2005/10/25/highest-earning-dead-celebrities_deadceleb05_land.html.

Fame or ill fame?

The Oscars get a lot of coverage, and the database at http://www.oscar.org/ is fully searchable. There is a comparable body for TV -- the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, who run the Emmy Awards. In addition to the Emmys, which you can see there (under Awards), the Academy has a Hall of Fame to honour actors, directors, producers, costume designers, writers, and others involved in television. The list of inductees goes back to 1984. Find it at http://www.emmys.com/awards/halloffame.php.

Beyond the IMDB

If you need factual film background beyond what the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com/) can offer, then Masters of Cinema (www.mastersofcinema.org/) may be for you. The site has news and articles about classic foreign cinema and features links to Web information on scores of noted directors such as Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Antonioni and Hitchcock. Release dates of selected movies on DVD are also a feature.
